How care is planned

Surgery is the last step, not the first.

Most back and neck pain improves without an operation. Your plan moves to the next step only when the one before it is not enough.

  1. Diagnosis

A full neurological examination and review of your MRI or CT, so the cause of the pain is clear before any decision.

  2. Conservative care

Medication, physiotherapy and targeted pain management for spinal problems that do not need surgery.

  3. Precise surgery

When surgery is needed: endoscopic, microscopic or robotic techniques that use smaller incisions and protect the surrounding muscle.

Treatments

Five areas of surgical expertise.

01

Minimally invasive spine surgery

  • Endoscopic disc surgery (lumbar, cervical, thoracic)
  • Microscopic disc surgery
  • Percutaneous minimally invasive spinal fixation

Helps withHerniated discs, sciatica and nerve compression, with less muscle disruption than open surgery.

02

Robotic and complex spine surgery

  • Robotic-assisted spine surgery
  • Vertebral body replacement and complex fixation
  • Thoracoscopic and retroperitoneal approaches
  • Revision and deformity correction

Helps withInstability, deformity and failed previous surgery, where screw placement must be exact.

03

Brain and spinal tumour surgery

  • Microscopic brain tumour surgery
  • Microscopic spine and spinal cord tumour surgery

Helps withTumours of the brain, spinal cord and vertebrae.

04

Trauma and vascular neurosurgery

  • Traumatic brain injury: sub- and epidural haematoma, skull and skull base fractures
  • Intracerebral and intraventricular haemorrhage
  • Aneurysms, AV malformations and cavernomas

Helps withHead and spine injuries and bleeding in the brain.

05

Nerve surgery and pain management

  • Peripheral nerve surgery
  • Conservative pain management for all spinal conditions
  • Care for degenerative spine changes

Helps withTrapped nerves and long-standing back or neck pain without surgery.

A story of courage and healing

After years of living with chronic pain, she chose minimally invasive disc surgery with fixation and fusion. The disc was reached through a small abdominal approach, and the screws were placed through keyhole incisions in the back.

    • Less scarringSmall incisions instead of open surgery
    • Less pain after surgeryMuscles spared on the approach
    • Faster recoveryBack on her feet and moving freely

Today she is standing taller, moving freely and living without pain. If you are considering this surgery, relief and recovery are possible.

    Questions patients ask

    Before your first visit.

Do I need surgery for a slipped disc?

Usually not. Many disc problems settle with medication, physiotherapy and pain management. Surgery is considered when pain persists, or when there is weakness, numbness or loss of bladder control.

What is minimally invasive or endoscopic spine surgery?

The surgeon works through a small incision using a camera or microscope, instead of opening the back widely. This disturbs less muscle and often shortens the hospital stay.

What does robotic spine surgery add?

A robotic guidance system helps plan and place spinal screws precisely according to your scans. It is used in fixation and complex spine operations.

    How long is recovery?

It depends on the procedure and your condition. Dr. Thaer will explain the expected hospital stay, return to work and physiotherapy plan at your consultation.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Any recent MRI, CT or X-ray images and reports, a list of your medications, and details of previous treatments or surgery.

    Is my insurance accepted?

Medcare works with many UAE insurance providers. Call or WhatsApp +971 58 533 6369 with your policy details to confirm coverage before your visit.
